1-to-1 TUITION IS ALSO AVAILABLE

IS YOUR CHILD READY FOR THE 11-PLUS EXAM?

By focusing our teaching efforts on smaller classes - usually a maximum of 6 pupils per class - we can really support those who are preparing for their 11-plus exam. Our 11-plus exam tuition covers Maths and English, as well as verbal and non-verbal reasoning, developing their ability to find solutions to problems.

As part of the exam preparation, pupils at Walsall Learning Centre will also undergo several mock tests, taken under exam conditions - regular progress reports will be made available to parents. Every mock exam taken will give our teachers a clear understand of which areas of learning need further development.

MATHEMATICS

Our pupils are prepared to a high standard and cover all the necessary topics of algebra, numbers, handling data, and geometry.

We also provide practice on problem-solving questions and time management.

All students are required to think critically and logically, and must attempt questions in quick succession. By the end of the course, the students will be confident in mathematics at this key stage level.

ENGLISH

As with other subjects, literacy is taught in line with the National Curriculum.

Emphasis is placed on grammar, spelling, composition and comprehension. The students are also required to learn key vocabulary and how certain words are used within different context.

The reading comprehension tasks in grammar school preparation require the student to digest a vast amount of reading and to interpret their findings under timed conditions.

VERBAL REASONING

Our teachers help students to review different types of verbal reasoning exercises. The aim is for pupils to develop their own strategies and techniques to solve problems. This component of grammar school preparation requires students to observe information and translate them into solutions, again under timed conditions.

Students are required to evaluate illustrations, codes and mixed scenarios in order to get to a solution.

NON-VERBAL REASONING

Our students will examine various types of non- verbal reasoning problems and learn to develop their natural ability to find solutions. Our teachers help pupils to achieve this by showing different techniques and ways of tackling questions.

This component mainly consists of similarities, differences, analogies, matrices and code questions. Each part has its own challenges and to be able to understand the types of questions and how to go about tackling those questions is absolutely paramount. We provide our students with ample practice in each question type and ensure progress in being made consistently before moving through the syllabus.

MOCK EXAMS

At Walsall Learning Centre, we monitor your child’s progress and their understanding, constantly. As the course progresses, we are able to identify areas that need development and support, whether that be in mathematics, English, verbal reasoning or non-verbal reasoning.

The mock examinations are undertaken in our exam hall where pupils sit under exam conditions, we do this to simulate the conditions that the students will face on the actual day of the exam. This helps build confidence so they are comfortable sitting tests in strict conditions, without having to feel anxious or pressurised. These are run throughout the half term holidays and summer period.

HOMEWORK

Teacher helping students
It is essential that homework is part of this course. You can expect your child to get homework after every session. The homework will be based on the session taught and will be expected to be returned the following week. This is good practise to ensure students are constantly recapping over the work done during tuition, and helps consolidate their studies.

We expect parents to support our teaching staff and aid the completion of this vital learning time, ensuring homework is completed to a high standard before it is handed in.

STUDENT FEEDBACK

Whatever level of tuition your child is receiving - from KS1 and 2, through to GCSE or A-Level studies - we keep parents fully informed on the progress of their child. We expect them to meet their child's teacher regularly to discuss their child's progress. Feedback is a crucial part of our service offering. We believe that learning is a three-way process with teacher student, and parent(s) working closely together to ensure the best possible results.

Professional 11-Plus tuition that will help give your child the confidence and knowledge to get the best results possible.
